Teen Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Help your teen take the next step toward healing with a Teen Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Orange County. At Compassion Teens, we offer both in-person and virtual PHP for teens who need more support than weekly therapy. Our personalized, evidence-based care helps teens build resilience while giving families the guidance and support they need.
What Is a Teen Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
A Teen Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a structured mental health program for adolescents who need more support than weekly therapy but do not require inpatient hospitalization. Teens typically attend treatment five days a week for several hours each day and return home each evening, allowing them to receive intensive care while staying connected to their families.
PHP includes individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and psychiatric support to help teens manage conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, eating disorders, mood disorders, and other mental health challenges. Its goal is to help teens stabilize, build healthy coping skills, and transition to a lower level of care when they are ready.
Is PHP the Right Level of Care for Your Teen?
A Teen Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the right choice if your teen needs more support than weekly therapy but doesn’t require 24-hour inpatient care or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). It provides a higher level of structure and clinical support while allowing teens to return home each day.
PHP may be appropriate if your teen is experiencing:
- Worsening anxiety or depression
- School refusal or difficulty managing daily life
- Frequent emotional outbursts or panic attacks
- Self-harm behaviors or safety concerns
- Trauma, OCD, or eating disorder symptoms
- Ongoing mental health crises that require more intensive care
The best way to determine whether PHP is the right fit is through a comprehensive clinical assessment. Our team works with families to recommend the level of care that best supports their teen’s safety, recovery, and long-term well-being.
In-Person and Virtual Teen PHP Options
At Compassion Teens, we offer both in-person and virtual Teen PHP so families can choose the level of care that best fits their teen’s clinical needs, routine, and lifestyle.
In-Person Teen PHP
Our in-person Teen PHP provides a structured treatment environment where adolescents receive individual therapy, group therapy, family counseling, and psychiatric support throughout the day. This option is ideal for teens who benefit from face-to-face interaction, a consistent daily routine, and additional clinical supervision.
Virtual Teen PHP
Our Virtual Teen PHP is available to eligible teens throughout California, allowing them to receive the same evidence-based treatment from the comfort of home. Teens can participate in therapy from home while receiving individual, group, family, and psychiatric support. Virtual PHP is a convenient option for families seeking flexible care, reducing travel time while maintaining access to high-quality treatment. Most major insurance plans are accepted for eligible services.
Conditions Our Teen PHP Helps Treat
At Compassion Teens, we help adolescents experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions that require more intensive care than weekly therapy alone.
What Happens During Teen PHP?
Every teen’s treatment plan is personalized based on their needs, goals, and diagnosis. During a Teen Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), your teen will participate in a structured schedule of evidence-based therapies and clinical support designed to promote lasting progress.
Comprehensive Assessment
Treatment begins with a thorough assessment to understand your teen's mental health needs and create a personalized care plan.
Individual Therapy
Your teen meets one-on-one with a licensed therapist to address personal challenges, develop coping skills, and work toward treatment goals.
Group Therapy
Group sessions help teens build communication skills, manage emotions, and learn from others facing similar challenges in a supportive setting.
Family Therapy
Parents and caregivers play an important role in treatment. Family therapy helps strengthen communication, improve relationships, and support progress at home.
Psychiatric Care & Medication Management
When appropriate, teens receive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing monitoring as part of their treatment plan.
Academic Support
We work to help teens stay engaged with their education whenever possible while prioritizing their mental health and recovery.
Skill Building
Teens learn practical strategies to manage stress, regulate emotions, improve relationships, and handle everyday challenges more effectively.
Transition Planning
As your teen progresses, we develop a personalized aftercare plan to help them transition smoothly to a lower level of care and maintain the progress they've made.

Caring and understanding staffPosted on Daniel MTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Best IOP center in Orange County for a reason. Compassion made recovery possible for me—without stepping into a facility. Their virtual care was personal, flexible, and truly supportive. They saw me as a whole person, not just a patient. Can’t thank them enough.Posted on Maza HoldingsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Have a bit more to say about this IOP but in summary really grateful for Josh, Dr JP and their team of doctors and group facilitators for helping me through a difficult situation. I needed to work around my schdule with family and kids and their program was perfect for me. Maybe it's not ideal for everyone but for me it was exactly what I needed. The whole process from intake, insurance verification, admission, scheduling, I was kept up to date on everything. I met with the Doctor and he was very knowledgeable, spent an hour with me which was what I needed, someone and a program to show that they care. Would recommend this IOP to anyone who struggles with mental health and needs some support and doesn't want to drastically change their life commitments at the time. Thank you Josh and thank you Compassion IOP.Posted on Tara EdwardsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
