INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
IN IOP & VIRTUAL IOP FOR TEENS
Individual Therapy
for Teens
Compassion Teens offers individual therapy for teens as part of our virtual IOP, in-person intensive outpatient, and outpatient care. In one-on-one sessions, your teen meets privately with a licensed therapist to talk honestly about what’s going on—feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or just “off”—without having to perform for anyone else. Together, they work on practical tools for emotions, stress, and school or family issues so your teen can feel more grounded while staying connected to friends, routines, and everyday life.
Personalized Individual Therapy for Teens
When your teen is really struggling, it’s hard to know what kind of support will actually move the needle. A quick weekly check-in can start to feel too light, but jumping straight to a hospital or residential stay can feel like way too much. Individual therapy at Compassion Teens sits in that middle space—weekly or more frequent one-on-one sessions built into our virtual IOP, in-person IOP, or outpatient care. Your teen gets consistent time with the same therapist, space to say what’s really going on, and a clear plan so they’re not just saying “I’m fine” in session, they’re actually starting to feel a shift
Step 1 – Tell Us Your Story
Share what your teen has been dealing with—feeling overwhelmed, anxious, down, angry, shut down, or just “not like themselves”—and what you’re hoping will change. Our team listens without judgment and helps you figure out whether individual therapy fits best within virtual IOP, in-person IOP, or outpatient care.
Step 2 - Licensed Clinicians Who Care
Next, we connect your teen with a licensed therapist who works specifically with teens and feels like a good match. Through a quick, confidential virtual assessment, we get a clearer picture of what’s going on at home, at school, and internally so we can recommend the right level of support and a 1:1 therapy plan.
Step 3 - Secure Online Sessions
From there, your teen starts a customized individual therapy plan. They meet regularly in private, HIPAA-compliant sessions, often alongside group work in IOP when recommended, scheduled around school and family time. It’s consistent one-on-one space to talk, practice new skills, and make real progress without putting their whole life on pause.

How We Personalize Individual Therapy for Teens in Our Virtual IOP
We take the time to truly understand your teen before we begin individual therapy—not just their symptoms, but their story, strengths, and what’s actually making life feel heavy or chaotic right now.
During the virtual intake, our licensed clinicians look at mood, anxiety, focus, school stress, family dynamics, safety, and daily routines to decide whether individual therapy fits best within virtual IOP, in-person IOP, or outpatient care.
From there, we develop a one-on-one therapy plan tailored to your teen and your family, not the other way around. When we personalize care, we look at:
- What your teen is struggling with most
- How they communicate and build trust
- School, friends, and home stressors
- Their goals and what “better” realistically looks like for them
